** WHAT OUR WORLD HAS COME TO **

2/21/11...With all the new technology that is forced upon us, many things that were once common (and a given) will fall to the wayside or finally become extinct.  People today "text message" so frequently that cursive handwriting will become unknown just like "Kanji", the oldest of the three Japanese alaphabets, where most modern day Japanese don't even know how to read or write it.  Actual speech may become a thing of the past also, since you can just type what you want to say on the actual device that enables you to TALK TO SOMEONE far away!   Now with photography, all the digital cameras and software available to the masses has made everyone an "expert" with taking pictures, and the need to "hire" a photographer is no longer an issue.  The need to shoot 35mm film has become nearly extinct to the public and trying to find a "professional lab" to develop it has become a search in vain.  Yes, I too shoot digital, but still like to shoot film for my own personal work (usually medium format film and not 35mm).  My point?  I was reading an entry on www.kenrockwell.com about the Nikon F6, one of Nikon's best 35mm film cameras.  Ken provides a link to Amazon with the comments of an unsatisfied Nikon F6 customer.  Below is the comment.  I'm not sure if it's a joke, but it's what our world has come to!

...here is the actual "1-star rating" given by the customer on Amazon:

Will not work with Digital Media, March 13, 2010 By R. Sawyer  "apologia"

This review is from: Nikon F 6 - SLR camera - 35mm - body only (Electronics)

Camera will not work with CompactFlash or other digital media. You must buy a cartridge of tape, which allows for just 24 shots. No LCD screen with image playback. Very disappointed and returned.

                                   *****

...So remember, when you want to shoot a 35mm film camera...DON'T FORGET YOUR "CARTRIDGE OF TAPE" TO RECORD YOUR IMAGES!

** CCJJC PROJECT COMPLETED **

1/19/11...FINALLY!  Delivery of the CCJJC pieces was made on 1/17/11 and installation completed on 1/18/11.  You can view slideshows at the  CCJJCC Project page.

I want to thank Mike Thomas and Clifton Woodard of Justice Planning Associates for the opportunity to showcase my work.  Many thanks to Mike Christ, Dave Robar, and Damien Thomas at Vocon.  Also, thank you to Josh Eiskamp and the folks at West Shore Distributors for the custom stretcher frames, and to "Bob the Installer" for doing an excellent job affixing the pieces to the walls.

A special "Thank you" to my brother, Tod Mann, for his ingenuity with creating a system to help with the frame brackets and wall locking system.  It made it an easier job for "Bob the Installer".  And, to my brother-in-laws, Joe Yu, and Quang Truong for all your help getting the pieces to their final destination.  Thank you.

Most of all, Thank You to my wife, Sau Mei (Carol), for all your love and support (and putting up with my B.S. and bitching), this project could not have been attempted nor completed without all your hardwork.  As "Bob the Installer" pointed out, "...that's the artist, but THAT'S THE BOSS!"  Thank you and I love you.

** "THE DELAYED DELIVERY SHOW" **

1/11/11...The CCJJC pieces had an original delivery date of 12/15/10, but was delayed until January.  The new delivery date was 1/6/11, but it too was cancelled.  So...we did the next best thing and had a showing of all 21 pieces at our studio/gallery on Friday 1/7/11.

High School friends Danny Gauntner and his wife, Kenny Herrera Gauntner.  Kenny is owner of Sign Expressions in Mentor, OH.

** CUYOHAGA COUNTY JUVENILE JUSTICE CENTER **

10/28/10...I was officially given the job to create and display artwork for the new Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Center located at 9300 Quincy Ave. in Cleveland, OH.  The task will be to create 21 original "digital paintings" for the new structure.  There will be 18 pieces in the "Great Hall" entryway consisting of two sets of 9 pieces on either side of the security gates.  The 9th floor will have the remaining 3 pieces.  I had been creating new images in hopes of being awarded this job.  All 21 pieces will be on canvas.

** PROXIMITY **

7/16/10...PROXIMITY is a new gallery in the Loftworks building located at 1667 E. 40th St. in Cleveland, OH.  The gallery is the combined efforts of Alex Kelly, Beth Whalley, Andy Curlowe, and Laura Skehan.  I take special interest in mentioning this because Alex is my cousin.  Not seeing him for many years, Alex and I were reaquainted this year at a memorial service for his mother, and my cousin, Lori Kelly.  I always knew of his talents as a painter and was thrilled to hear of his new venture.  More stunning was the fact that the gallery is just down the street from my studio!  You can check out their website for upcoming shows/events.

** YU-MANN GALLERY **

1/7/09
...We've added a new page, Yu-Mann Gallery , to the site.  Carol and I (with the help of Joe, Lui, and Quang) have fixed up the studio space that we acquired in April, to what I call 85% complete.  So, along with the space being my photo studio, it will also double as a gallery.  For now, I have my Digital Paintings on display.  Once things get a bit more established, we will entertain the idea of hosting openings for other artist's work.  If you would like to stop by, please call (216.333.1599...Scott Mann Photo) between 10am-4pm, Monday-Friday to schedule a visit.  Appointments can also be set up for an evening visit as well.
